How to shave with a Cut throat razor

Regular readers will know I am an advocate of using a straight razor, and I am also a big fan of Bluebeards Revenge, the UK Grooming company. What you might not know is a couple of years ago, I got my first straight razor from the Bluebeards, or more specifically a shavette. It was that moment that got me into perfecting what many gentlemen consider the only proper way to shave.

I have on a couple of attempts tried to make a video on how start shaving with a shavette, but have never been happy with the results.  So when I found this recent video by Miguel Gutierrez AKA The Nomad Barber and grooming guru Dan Gregory, I knew it was something I had to share. The fact they are using the same Bluebeards products I learned to shave with is a real bonus.

Produced, edited and directed by the Nomad Barber, the video sees Dan patiently showing you how it’s done, teaching you how to get that method down to a tee and give yourself the perfect cut-throat shave. Filmed at the renowned Man Made London premises in Marylebone, London, the video takes an in-depth look at how to perfect the technique required and offers lots of tips on how to wield a cut-throat razor.

The Nomad barber is known for his globe-trotting, travelling the world and showing off his skills in a variety of diverse locations. Adored in the barbering world, he has finally returned to London where he can be found at his pop-up barbershop at Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.

Dan, named “one of London’s best gentlemen’s hairdressers” by ES Magazine, is a leading men’s grooming expert whose work has featured in many magazines from Vanity Fair Italia to British GQ and seen on some of the most recognisable faces in TV, Film and Music. A regular adviser of high profile corporations on upcoming trends, he also helps to launch some of the most significant men’s products on the market today.

As for the Bluebeards, if winning last years coveted FHM grooming product of the year for their wonderful shave cream isn’t enough to convince you, maybe the fact I wouldn’t consider using any other post shave balm. To me it’s the best in the business.

If you’re new to cut-throat shaving and have been hesitant about giving it a try, then the video should give you the confidence you need to bite the bullet and get started, and with some of the male grooming world’s biggest names involved you can rest assured that you are learning from the best.
